  • What is a ferrite core (a high-frequency magnetic conductive material)?

Ferrite core is mainly composed of three metal elements: iron (FE), manganese (MN), and zinc (Zn). It is usually called Mn Zn ferrite. The annular ferrite core has no air gap and the cross-sectional area is the same, so the magnetic effect is very high.

There are many specifications and sizes of ferrite magnetic ring, which can be selected according to the material of magnetic ring, and different coatings can be used to simplify winding and improve breakdown voltage.

Ferrite core is made of dense and homogeneous ceramic structure non-metallic magnetic materials with low coercivity, also known as soft ferrite. It consists of oxides or carbonate compounds of iron oxide (Fe2O3) and one or more other metals (e.g. manganese, zinc, nickel, magnesium). Ferrite raw materials are pressed, sintered at 1300 ℃ and finally machined into finished magnetic cores that meet the application requirements. Compared with other types of magnetic materials, ferrite has the advantages of high permeability, high resistance and low eddy current loss in a wide frequency range. These material characteristics make ferrite an ideal material for manufacturing high-frequency transformers, broadband transformers, adjustable inductors and other high-frequency circuits from 10kHz to 50MHz.

    Use of ferrite core

Coils wound around ferrite cores can be made into inductors or transformers, which are widely used in instruments, communication equipment and household appliances. Ferrite cores have many material brands and various geometric shapes, including cylindrical, I-shaped, cap shaped, single hole, double hole, four hole, U-shaped, can shaped, E-shaped, EI shaped, EC shaped, RM shaped, PQ shaped and EP shaped, as shown in the attached figure. The magnetic cores of each shape form a series for users to choose from. Ferrite cores have a wide range of choices. Different materials and shapes can be selected according to different magnetic parameters. Due to their low magnetic loss at high frequency, they are widely used in switching mode power supply (SMPS), radio frequency (RF) transformers and inductors. Ferrite cores of various shapes and sizes are used in inductors, pulse transformers, high-frequency transformers and noise filters in high-frequency power supply and high-quality communication market. Ferrite is characterized by high permeability, good temperature characteristics and low attenuation rate.

    Specific data of ferrite core

Compared with the hollow coil of the same volume, the inductor made by winding a coil on the ferrite core has large inductance and high Q value (quality factor). Such as Gu - 22 × 13 can shaped magnetic core. When it is used to make a 4mh inductor, it only needs to wrap 43 turns of coil. If the can shaped magnetic core is not used, it needs to wrap 600 turns to get a 4mh inductor. It can be seen that the volume of inductor or transformer can be greatly reduced after using magnetic core.
